Real capacity, straight from the DOE filing
2,639 portable ACs, window ACs, dehumidifiers and air purifiers, with the capacity each maker certified to the US Department of Energy. For portable ACs and dehumidifiers that's often below the box figure, because DOE uses a different test. DOE data as of 2026-11-03.

Where the numbers come from
- One DOE filing. Makers have to certify these products to the US Department of Energy before they sell them. We show the figure as filed, the test it came from and the date of our snapshot.
- Matched to a listing. We link an Amazon listing only when the brand, the model number or UPC, and the product type all agree. So far that's 528 of 2,639 models.
- Checked on a schedule. DOE updates its database about every two weeks. We pull a fresh snapshot on the same schedule and keep the old ones. Full details: Methodology.
